You go to the movie theater and you buy yourself some popcorn, candy, a soda, maybe even sneak in some food because movie theater snacks are expensive as fuck. But the point is your going into the theater and you sit down to watch the new big movie everyone is talking about. You fall in love with that film and all you can think about is how amazing the film is and your experience watching the film. Years go by and every time you watch that film you think about your first time experience watching it and the other times watching it. Well if you haven’t guessed by now this top 10 list is going to be about movies, mainly what my top 10 favorite movies of all time are. Now not everyone has their own opinion on what their favorite film is. Some people are into romantic films and there favorite film is The Notebook. Some people love bloody gore horror and their favorite film is Saw. Other people might love animated films and there favorite film is Cars 2 (don’t be that guy Cars 2 is a trash film and makes no sense with the plot of the first Cars film.) But anyway that’s their opinion. So if your favorite film isn’t on this list and you don’t agree with my list then that is okay, you have your own opinion. So in that case, please in the comments post your favorite films or top 10 favorite films. Now I have watched a lot of films throughout my life, good and bad. But this list was not easy to make and I might miss a movie or two. I could make a lot of top 10 lists about this topic. Either way I have held this up for too long, here is my top 10 list. Spoilers possible ahead!!! I will include the trailers in the list just so you can see the films itself.
My Top 10 Favorite Movies of All Time
10. The Wrestler – If you don’t know me by now I am a huge fan for WWE and professional wrestling. I love seeing two men or women fighting each other, hitting each other with steel chairs, getting thrown off of 30 feet cages into a table, etc. Pretty much I love wrestling and this movie made me respect wrestling. The movie is about Randy “The Ram” Robinson and his struggles of becoming a retired wrestler. Mickey Rourke does a fabulous job of playing Randy Robinson as I couldn’t even tell if Rourke was playing a role or possibly a real wrestler. Now this was back in 2008 when I watched the film so automatically I’m a kid thinking everything is real. Darren Aronofsky direction in this film was brilliant as it showed Randy’s later years in his career up until he has a heart attack and now Randy must live in a world where he can’t wrestle anymore and must do an actual 9-5 job. We watch Randy struggle though this life and struggle with other things in his life like his life with his daughter and a possible love. I like seeing the backstage of each event that Randy is a part of because we see what backstage of an actual wrestling show is like before the show. In real life it’s called Kayfabe which is when a character of the show and the events that happen in the wrestling show is real and not a part of the act. So I like seeing the real life of an actual wrestler. Randy isn’t the same wrestler he was in his younger years and he knows that but he continues to try and be that young self for his fans. I think the cinematography work in this film is top notch as well. It’s not a masterpiece but it’s pretty decent cinematography that I really enjoyed. I love the journey we watch in this film and the ending of the film, the final scene, is a cinematic masterpiece. Well to me of course it’s a cinematic masterpiece. Either way it’s a great film to start this list and I highly recommend watching it, wrestling fan or not a wrestling fan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61-GFxjTyV0
9. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre – A lot of people say that Halloween started the slasher genre in horror films, but in all seriousness the 1st serious slasher film was Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The film is a cult classic in horror films and has been remade/rebooted and has a lot of sequels. But none of them stand a chance from the original 1974 film. The film is about a group of young adults going on a road trip gone wrong as they fall victim to the chainsaw wielding Leatherface. I love this film a lot as I love the character of Leatherface as he has this look of someone not to really fuck with, especially when he is holding a chainsaw. This film is very bloody and gory, like probably one of the first types of films like that. The director Tobe Hopper, may he rest in peace, has a fucked up mind I believe as this man created one of horror’s best films ever but also one of the most horrifying looking films. This film is not for everyone so if you can’t deal with bodies being cut open, bones, blood and all things gore then don’t watch but if you’re like me and love watching that shit then this is a film for you. It took me a couple of films to finally see how amazing of a film this is and I fell in love with it soon after that. Plus this film is based on true events. So the fact that events like this actually happened and Hooper put it onto film is pretty crazy. Either way it worked out perfectly in the end and the film has become one of Horror’s most iconic films. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgJQvyngAeM
8. Avatar – Do you like alien native type of creatures that live within your own world? Do you like a world where a human falls in love with that alien native type of creature? Do you like tail fucking? If so then you know this movie pretty well and you have seen it before. Avatar is basically a film about a human going into the world of these native type of creatures and soon after starts to fall for one of them and wants to save their world before the government he works for destroys their land. James Cameron creates this beautiful film and it’s one of his best works in a long time. The world of Pandora that the navi(Avatars) live in is so beautiful and colorful. Seeing it in Disney World was something that was very memorable and a great experience. The experience itself made me feel like I was actually there. But the film in general has beautiful visuals and a great score. The CGI work in this film is a masterpiece and during this time of the film coming out it was one of the best CGI work in cinema and that I have ever seen. People say that this film is very overrated and I really don’t agree with them. I rarely see this film being talked about and viewed by the public other than last year when Avengers Endgame passed it in box office success. Regardless this movie in my opinion is one of the best films in cinema history. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PSNL1qE6VY
7. Wolf of Wall Street – There is something about this film that every time I watch it I fall more in love with it. In my opinion, this is Leonardo Dicaprio’s greatest role and his best movie. It is one of the best Scorsese films and it is one of the greatest films of all time. I wish Leo won the Oscar for this film to be honest, but I think the same thing about the film as a whole. Now this film is very long, 3 hours long to be exact. So if you have the patience to watch 3 hour long spectacular then you defiantly know how much work was put into this film. I fell in love with Margot Robbie because of this film unlike some people that fell in love with her in Suicide Squad playing Harley Quinn. This film also had Jonah Hill’s greatest performance on the big screen. Even though Moneyball was his first serious role, this Wolf of Wall Street role brought out a different person in him. Moneyball he was more serious and quiet, but in Wolf of Wall Street he was able to go out there and put in 110 percent more than he usually does. I love this film because we see a different side out of these actors that we normally don’t see. Before Wolf of Wall Street when I think of Leo I think of this actor playing Jack in the Titanic and when I think of Jonah Hill I think of him in Superbad talking about how he drew dicks at 10 years old. Both men put on Oscar worthy performances and holy fuck do I love this film. This film also is in the top 10 films that literally say the word “Fuck”. Like that’s amazing. In general I would put this film higher but I had to think about the amount of times I watched the film and the experiences I have gotten from them. Plus like I said earlier on I have seen so many films. Thankfully I rewatched this film recently and analyzed the film and after that viewing I knew that this film would be in my top 10 list. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iszwuX1AK6A
6. Mad Max Fury Road – I never watched the Mel Gibson Mad Max films, mainly because I think he’s a piece of shit but also because I never got the time to watch it. But when I watched the new Tom Hardy Mad Max film, I actually was really into it. I actually did not expect it to even make it to my top 10 list but after a few weeks of thinking about my favorite films and analyzing the film as a whole, I realized it is one of my favorite films of all time. I love the cinematography work and the music in this film. The music has this rock/metal feel in most parts of the film, especially during the chase scene. And the color in this film is so beautiful and it has a lot of reds and orange and blue like it mixes very well. I think Tom Hardy does a great job in this film but Charlize Theron kind of steals the film when it comes to the acting. She plays Furiosa, a badass female leader who has a metallic arm and she helps save the people from Immortan Joe with the help from Max and others. I think this film has a great look, a great style in filmmaking and a great direction. The fact that George Miller, the creator and director of the first Mad Max film, came back to direct this film 30 years later after the original shows that hard work and passion he has for this film. I have seen his works before in my childhood, Happy Feet lol. Yeah the guy who made a film about a wastelandish world created a world of penguins dancing and singing, crazy right. Anyway the film defiantly is amazing and is defiantly worth the watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEJnMQG9ev8
5. The Avengers – The summer of 2012 is probably one of my favorite summers in my lifetime. I saw three of the biggest films of that year. Those films were The Amazing Spider-man, The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers. While Spider-man and Batman had good films, they didn’t stand a chance against Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk and the rest of the Avengers. I fell in love with this movie after my first viewing. I remember me and my friend Devon filmed our own Avengers video that we never finished sadly, but the point is we both fell in love for this film because it was so good. The whole franchise was really good to be honest. Age of Ultron was okay, Infinity War was a masterpiece and Endgame was a spectacular, but Avengers is the one that takes the place on my list. Trust me I would put Infinity War on here as well but I watched Avengers a lot more than I have for Infinity War and I didn’t got a different experience for both films. Infinity War had that intense feeling, while Avengers gave me an experience I will never forget. I think this film really stands out to me because I could watch this film from beginning to end and still get that smile in the end. Every time I see Hulk smash Loki I laugh. Every time Thor, Iron Man and Captain America have their little fight I watch with this intense feeling. Every time I see the shot of all 6 of the Avengers I get Goosebumps. I feel like I wouldn’t be able to be the person I am today without that summer of 2012 and without The Avengers. That film made my summer experience more fun and happy. I can say that without the film I wouldn’t have been so into the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe. This film was literally the best crossover film of multiple superheroes that hasn’t been redone or done by any other studio; I’m talking about you DC and the bullshit Justice League film. In the end, I do have to say The Avengers is one of those films that I look back on and say I was there on opening weekend to see this film with my bro and was able to have an experience that I will never forget. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOrNdBpGMv8
4. Shaun of the Dead – I love zombie movies. I don’t know why I love them so much. Maybe it’s because of the makeup/effects used in the zombie flicks. Maybe it’s because they don’t fully rely on jump scares. But what I do know is without Shaun of the Dead I probably would have never watched a zombie movie. Back in 2005 in my grandparents house I would watch o ton of movies on HBO and Cinemax, especially my first nude film at 7 years old. I blame my grandmother leaving the TV on when she fell asleep so thanks Grandma for my first time watching a sex scene. Where were we, oh yeah Shaun of the Dead. One day I turned on the TV and it was on Cinemax and this movie happened to be on. I didn’t know what it was and I was very interested in the film. 15 years later I can never stop talking about how great of film it is and it’s literally my favorite zombie/comedy film ever. Now I really had to think hard about where to place in on this list too because it had a lot of competition. But I’m happy t put it in this spot because it defiantly deserves it. I’m trying to find a steelbook blu-ray of this film so badly and can never get my hands on it, but that’s for just me let’s talk more about the movie. I think this is a great horror/comedy film that uses the horror timing in the right way. I feel like the film is a parody of zombie flicks but at the same time I don’t know for sure. All I know is Edgar Wright is a genius for making this movie. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are always great when they work together and this movie is a stand out for their works together. Is this film a cinematic masterpiece? No not really, it’s not perfect and has a couple of flaws, but that 92% Rotten Tomatoes score shows that this film is a cinematic spectacular. I love the scene when Shaun goes to the shop and he is oblivious to the zombies around him or the scene where they need to kill two zombies in the backyard so Shaun and his friend throw records at them hoping it will kill them. Like I said this film has great comedic timing and great use of horror when it comes to zombie films. I love it so much and as I’m typing this up now I really want to watch it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9XZqB6pI5E
3. Toy Story 3 – This one was very hard for me to decide. We all have seen and fallen in love with the Toy Story franchise. All 4 of the films are perfect in their own way and have a special part in my heart. However I can’t cheat and put the franchise in the list so I had to choose one film. I grew up with Toy Story 1 and 2 and I recently watched Toy Story 4 last year so I haven’t gotten that fulfillment yet with that film. Then there is Toy Story 3. I have talked about this film multiple times on Facebook and in my top 10 lists so it’s not a shock that it’s on the list. I watched this film online the first day it came out. Let’s just say back then it was way easy to find films to watch online for free and I got lucky. Anyway this Toy Story film I got a different experience I couldn’t get as a 4 year old mimicking Toy Story with his Potato Head, Buzz and Woody and as an adult watching the 4th film. I watched Toy Story 3 at 14 years old, an age where kids are in their second year of being a teenager but also are starting to figure themselves out. Toy Story was in my life for 14 years, pretty much since I was born and when this film was officially the last Toy Story 4, until 2019 when a 4th one came out, I thought about myself and certain things, saying goodbye and growing up. Around that age I was beginning to forget people or saying goodbye to people not I’m my life and moving on with my life as a teenager. But towards the film I was saying goodbye to Woody and the gang and kind of in the same boat with Andy. I feel like the movie as a whole is a very great film, a masterpiece in my eyes, and it has some of the greatest scenes in animation history. The ending of this film has to be the best ending in animation history and one of the best endings in film history. With that said I cried like a baby on the 1st viewing of this film and each time I watched it I either cried some more or let out a tear. From age 14 to now I grew up with the film and became more smarter, responsible and mature. I learned a lot from just watching this film that sometimes it sucks to say goodbye and to move on but the older you get the more you understand why it is best to keep moving forward. This film helped me understand that and that’s why I love it so much because in a way Toy Story 3 helped me become a better person. Well a good percentage of it did at least. We all have seen the film and have cried and if you haven’t then something is really wrong with you. I think the Toy Story franchise as a whole is one of the greatest franchises in franchise history and Toy Story 3 is the one film in the franchise that gave me a more mature experience and understanding of the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcpWXaA2qeg
2. The Lion King – I literally grew up with this movie and out of all of these films I watched this film the most. I’m not kidding; I have watched The Lion King about a million times. With that said, we all know the story, we all have sang the songs, we all cried when Mufassa died and we all have seen this move and fell in love with it. The Lion King without a question is Disney’s best film. I think the live action version of the film is a good movie too and after watching the live action films multiple times I gained respect for Disney and the people that worked on the film and I saw the passion they had making it. The same goes for the people who made the 1994 original film. I can say this is my favorite Disney film and at one time was my favorite movie of all time. I literally own stuffed Simba and to this day still have it from when I was a baby. It’ not in the best shape but my point is I love it so much because of my love for the movie. I have Lion King Funko Pops, Lion King poster, Lion King cups, Lion King t-shirts, Lion King album, Lion King pc game, a Lion King blu ray and video tape and knowing me I at one point had a Lion King pair of pajamas and most likely underwear (not so sure about the underwear). I love this movie so fucking much and I can honestly say that it is the greatest Disney film period. The music in the film is beautiful, the animation and colors are phenomenal, the voice cast is perfect and everything about the film to me is perfect. It’s a perfect film and since 1994 it has lived up to its name, being the King of Disney animation and film. Let’s be honest, without the success of Lion King Animal Kingdom would have never opened in Disney World. The Lion King has a special part in my heart that I will never lose and I can watch the film everyday if I wanted to and trust me I can very well do that. The Lion King will always be in my top 10 list and I will always love the film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFzVJEksoDY
1. The Dark Knight – I mean I quote this movie the most on Instagram posts and in my life. I literally am in love with Heath Ledger’s Joker and the movie is fucking a masterpiece. Let me be clear about this because it’s not a shock that The Dark Knight is my favorite movie of all time, but it did take some time for me to finally accept it as my favorite movie of all time. When I first watched the film back in late 2008 I really enjoyed the film. Years later and growing up with the film and analyzing the film each time I noticed certain details, quotes and the cinematography work. Every scene with the Joker is beautiful. Every time Batman is with Joker we have a scene stealing performance from Heath Ledger and Christian Bale. Even the co stars of the film are amazing. Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent/Two-Face was brilliant and Michael Caine as Alfred is amazing. The bank job opening scene, the interrogation scene, the why so serious scene and pretty much every scene is great and brilliant and well shot and fuck this movie is great. Why the fuck was it not nominated for best picture in the Academy Awards like Heath Ledger won best supporting role for an actor but it should have hands down been nominated for BEST PICTURE!!!!!! I went way too serious there. Even without a best picture nomination/award the film doesn’t need it because it’s so fucking perfect without it. The Joker is obviously half the reason why it’s number one but the rest is the movie itself as a whole. I have done many school reports on the film and Joker and I have watched this film every chance that I get. To some people the movie is long and drags on and to those people I say “Why So Serious”. But to the people that are in love with this film and can never look away from the screen when they are watching it, I love you all and think you understand why this movie is so fucking great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXeTwQWrcwY
